On the day of his birthday, the old Faust, finding no meaning to his life, tries to commit suicide but he is not capable. An advertisement on the network changes everything. By the hand of Mephistopheles, he enters a world created from his most intimate desires. Here he can be and he can have whatever he wants. But everything has a cost and Faust must sign the pact again and again… with the devil?
How many times have you sold your soul to the devil? How many times has desire irrationally moved you because the price was too affordable? How many times have you let yourself be dazzled by a pair of flashy sneakers, forgetting who made them and how? How many coffee pods have you used ignoring where they would end up? How many privacy policies have you accepted without having read them? What percentage of your life is mortgaged, by whom and for what? How much and which sex have you consumed? When and for what love have you paid?
A little more than two centuries ago, Goethe used the myth of Doctor Faust to reflect on the modern world born before him. The world changed after the very first days of capitalism and the German author reflected through his great character: if we could do anything, what would we want? Who would we become?
Who or what is Mephistopheles today? Why do we constantly give up on the real cost of our desires? What makes us look for shortcuts while giving away the pleasure of the long road? Why do we make the dream cheaper? What would we not dare? Faust, who is he? Are we all him?
